 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lena kinta'nija'peres -- April 16, 1971 until March 31, 1995) also known as Selena, was an American Tejano singer. Her contribution to fashion and music led to her being the "Queen" of Tejano music. She is one of the most famous performers from the Mexican-American genre of the late 20th century. In 2020, Billboard magazine put her in third place in their ranking of "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", based on both Latin albums as well as the Latin chart of songs. In her selection of clothes media outlets have dubbed her the Tejano Madonna. Her choices in clothing also makes her among the most renowned Latin artists. Quintanilla, Suzette Quintanilla. They were frequently criticised in the 1980s , and was barred from performances at Texas venues for her performance of Tejano music, which is a largely male-dominated genre. Her popularity grew when she won the Tejano Music Award as Female Vocalist of the year in 1987. It was awarded nine times. She signed with EMI Latin in 1989 and released her debut album, self-titled the following year. In the meantime, her brother became her primary music producer and songwriter.Selena has released Entre a Mi Mundo (1992), which peaked at top of the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight months in a row. It was hailed by music critics as the "breakthrough" album of her musical career. One of the singles, "Como la Flor" was a smash and became her signature track. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido became one the most sold Latin albums in America in 1994. It was praised by critics as being the catalyst for Tejano music's first commercially viable era because it became one the most loved Latin music subgenres of the time.
